Working under the name ‘Messengers of peace’, the many employees of the NGO ‘Mensajeros de la Paz’ help the socially disadvantaged worldwide, combating child poverty, supporting refugees, the homeless, and families and women in difficult situations. The messengers of peace also care for senior citizens. Founded in 1962 as ‘Cruz de los Ángeles’ by Padre Ángel García Rodríguez and Ángel Silva Sánchez, the organization relies entirely on donations and volunteers.

This year, their projects are focused on those particularly hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Drees & Sommer Madrid also wants to help, and is supporting the ‘Banco Solidario’ (solidarity food bank) with a donation of €2,000. The project supplies a daily meal to needy families in Madrid. At the beginning of the pandemic, there were some 1,200 families in need – but now double that number are receiving support. The Mensajeros de la Paz centers provide families with a complete meal to take home. Nieves Tirez Jiménez, the director of the foundation, stresses that the center needs food supplies to continue helping.  “As a result of Covid-19, we have nearly four times as many people asking for help,” she says. The colleagues are pleased to be able to make a difference with their donation.
